The Riders fell to the Stampede 3-1 last Wednesday in <st1:City w:st="on">Sioux Falls</st1:City>, bounced back to shutout the Musketeers 5-0 in <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Sioux City</st1:place></st1:City> last Friday only to be shutout 3-0 at home by the Indiana Ice last Saturday. <o:p></o:p> The Riders are one point behind the Des Moines Buccaneers in the race for first place in the United States Hockey League’s East Division. <o:p></o:p> The Riders have gone 3-3-1 in their last seven games after going 13-4-0 in their first seventeen games.<o:p></o:p> With last Friday’s win the Riders improved to 10-3-1 on the road. The Riders have won more away games than any other team in the league. <o:p></o:p> The Riders have scored one goal in regulation or been shutout in three of their last four games. The Riders now rank third in the league in goal scoring, averaging 3.5 goals per game. <o:p></o:p> Despite picking up just one point in his last six games, the Riders’ Ted Purcell (10-22-32) remains the league leader in points and assists. <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Cedar Rapids</st1:place></st1:City>’ Chad Costello (11-20-31) ranks second in point scoring and assists.<o:p></o:p> The Gamblers snapped a three game losing streak with a 4-2 win over the Black Hawks in <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Waterloo</st1:place></st1:City> last Saturday. That win came on the heels of a 2-1 loss to <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Sioux Falls</st1:City></st1:place> last Friday.<o:p></o:p> <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Green Bay</st1:City></st1:place> has gone 7-3-2 over the last month, recovering from a slow start that saw the Gamblers post a 4-10 record over their first 14 outings.<o:p></o:p> The Gamblers return home to take on the Riders having lost their last three games at the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Resch</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType w:st="on">Center</st1:PlaceType></st1:place>. <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Green Bay</st1:place></st1:City> is just 4-7-0 on home ice this season.<o:p></o:p> The Gamblers, who have scored exactly as many goals as they have given up (84) are three points in front of <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Waterloo</st1:City></st1:place> in the East Division standings. The Gamblers have played three more games than the Black Hawks.<o:p></o:p> Kevin Deeth (8-16-24) leads the Gamblers in points, while Brian Roloff (13-8-21) and Sean Backman (12-9-21) are <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Green Bay</st1:City></st1:place>’s top goal scorers.<o:p></o:p> The Ice snapped a six game winless streak (0-5-1) with last Saturday’s win in <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Cedar Rapids</st1:place></st1:City>. <st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Indiana</st1:place></st1:State> returned to action on home ice yesterday evening and suffered a 5-2 loss to the Sioux Falls Stampede<o:p></o:p> <st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Indiana</st1:place></st1:State> went 5-2-1 in its first eight games but has gone just 3-10-3 in its last 16 outings and is just two points ahead of the league cellar-dwelling Chicago Steel.<o:p></o:p> <st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Indiana</st1:place></st1:State> is one of just three teams that have allowed an average of at least four goals per game (4.0).<o:p></o:p> The Ice’s top scorer is defenseman Eddie Del Grosso (10-13-23). Del Grosso leads USHL defensemen in goals and is tied for the lead among blue liners in points. Del Grosso is also tied for the overall league lead in power play goals (9).
