RoughRiders, Jaycees Team Up for Successful Teddy Bear Toss; 700 Bears Donated to Christmas Toy Shop
<p>December 10, 2005- The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders and Cedar Rapids Jaycees teamed up for a successful third annual Teddy Bear Toss during the RoughRiders' game against the Indiana Ice earlier this evening at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.</p>
<p>Fans in attendance threw better than 700 teddy bears out onto the ice midway through the third period of what proved to a 3-0 defeat for the Riders. The Teddy Bears were collected from the ice by Rider players and staff and will be donated to The Christmas Toy Shop just in time for Christmas.</p>
<p>"Our fans have again shown tremendous generosity," said RoughRiders Vice President of Operations Jim Calpin. "It was certainly a great show of Christmas spirit. We feel very fortunate to be able to work with Cedar Rapids Jaycees on a project like the Teddy Bear Toss."</p>
<p>The Christmas Toy Shop is a partnership between Toys for Tots and The Salvation Army which provides holiday toys for children in need up to 17 years of age. The two groups annually serve hundreds of children in the Cedar Rapids area during the holiday season.</p>
<p>The Jaycees and the United States Marine Corps coordinate the Cedar Rapids area Toys for Tots program.</p>
<p>Even with this evening's loss, the Riders remain in second place in the United States Hockey League's East Division with a record of 16-7-1. The Riders now face road games next Friday in Green Bay and next Saturday in Indiana. The Riders next play on home ice on Thursday, December 29, when the Green Bay Gamblers visit the ice arena.</p>
<p>Tickets for all remaining Rider home games are now on sale at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena ticket office. Tickets can be purchased over the phone at (319) 261-4625, in person at the ice arena or on line at www.roughridershockey.com. The ticket office is open from noon to 5:00PM on weekdays and from noon through the end of the second period on game days. Ticket prices range from $7.00 to $17.00 including a 50-cent facility fee. </p> |
