Game Summary: December 3, 2005- RoughRiders 2 Omaha 1 (Shootout)

December 3, 2005- The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders and Coach and General Manager Mark Carlson tonight made history by reaching 200 all-time regular season wins. The host Riders hit the milestone by edging the Omaha Lancers 2-1 in a shootout.

"This is really just a proud moment for our entire organization," said Carlson. "A lot of people- players and staff- have put in tremendous amount of effort over the years to enable us to reach this point."

Carlson has guided the Riders to a 200-143-33 record in six-plus years since taking charge of the club upon its arrival in Cedar Rapids in 1999.

The RoughRiders had to work overtime and then some to earn win number 200. After sudden death ended with the score tied at one, the Riders outscored the Lancers 2-0 in the shootout. Jacob Cepis and Nik Sellers converted penalty shots to give the Riders the victory.

Cedar Rapids goaltender Al Stalock stopped all four Omaha penalty shots after making 38 saves in regulation and overtime.

Chad Costello scored the Riders' only goal of regulation, tying the score at one at 16:25 of the second period after Ryan Turek's first period goal had given the Lancers a 1-0 lead.

In reaching 200 win plateau, the Riders also improved their record on the season to 15-5-1. With 31 points, the Riders are tied with the Des Moines Buccaneers for first place in the United States Hockey League's East Division.

With their strong start, the Riders have picked up this season where left off last spring- the Riders last year won the USHL's Clark Cup playoff championship for the first time in team history. Carlson was named the league's 2004-05 Coach of the Year for piloting the Riders to the postseason title as well as a share of the 2004-05 Anderson Cup regular season championship and the East Division crown.

The trio of titles capped off the most successful campaign in team history as the Riders set a host club records, including new organizational highs for wins (42) and points (89). The Riders also established new league records for most road wins in one season (24) and longest road winning streak (13 games) last year.

The RoughRiders have clearly established themselves among the USHL's elite. This year they are seeking a sixth straight winning season and a sixth consecutive playoff berth. The Riders are one of just three USHL teams to have reached the postseason each of the last five years. Cedar Rapids has also advanced at least as far as the Clark Cup semi-finals/East Division finals three of the last four years.

Prior to taking over as the Riders' Coach and General Manager just over six years ago, Carlson spent four seasons as a collegiate assistant coach at Northeastern and Massachusetts-Lowell. In his playing days, Carlson was a forward at Lowell and was a 1987 draft pick of the National Hockey League's Pittsburgh Penguins.

Box Score
