Justin Abdelkader snapped a 2-2 tie 1:17 into the third period and the host RoughRiders held on for a 3-2 win over the Des Moines Buccaneers Sunday afternoon.
Abdelkader tipped in a Ray Eichenlaub shot just 33 seconds after the Buccaneers’ Matt Greer buried a rebound during a Des Moines power play to tie the score at two.
The RoughRiders first took the lead with a pair of goals early in the second period. Jordan Pietrus jammed the puck home from the doorstep just 12 seconds into the period to tie the score at one.
At 3:49 of the second, the RoughRiders moved in front as Zach Miskovic blasted the puck past Des Moines goaltender A.J. Bucchino from the blue line for a power play goal.
Alex Laseen’s rebound goal at 1:43 of the first period had given the Bucs an early 1-0 lead.
Dan Tormey made 29 saves to earn the victory in the RoughRider net.
