RoughRiders' Bendickson Bound for Wisconsin
<p>November 23, 2005- Cedar Rapids RoughRiders forward Aaron Bendickson has committed to the University of Wisconsin, the RoughRiders announced today. Bendickson will begin his college career next season.</p>
<p>"Aaron has worked very hard to earn this opportunity," said RoughRiders coach and general manager Mark Carlson "He is obviously a quality player and we're very excited for him to have the chance to be part of a program like Wisconsin."</p>
<p>Bendickson, 19, is in his first season with the RoughRiders. The Thief River Falls, Minnesota, native has scored six goals and picked up one assist in 16 games this year. </p>
<p>Bendickson played for the Bismarck Bobcats of the North American Hockey League last season, scoring 13 goals and totaling 38 points in 48 games. The Riders selected Bendickson in the fifteenth round of May's USHL draft with the one hundred twenty-third overall choice. </p>
<p>Wisconsin is currently ranked second in the nation. The powerhouse Badgers have gone 9-1-2 overall and lead the Western Collegiate Hockey Association with an 8-0-2 conference record. Bendickson will join former Rider defensman Matt Olinger- now a junior at Wisconsin- in Madison next fall.</p>
<p>Bendickson joins joins Phil Axtell (Michigan Tech), Jacob Cepis (Bowling Green), Ray Kaunisto (Northern Michigan), Nick Grasso (Massachusetts), Ryan Gunderson (Minnesota State-Mankato), Andy Miele (Miami of Ohio), Ted Purcell (Maine), Alex Stalock (Minnesota-Duluth), Gary Steffes (Miami of Ohio), David Strathman (Northeastern) and Kevin Wehrs (Minnesota) as the twelfth member of the 2005-06 RoughRiders to make a college commitment.</p>
<p>Bendickson and the RoughRiders return to action tonight at 7:05 as the Riders host the opener of their traditional Thanksgiving week home-and-home series with the arch rival Waterloo Black Hawks. The Riders visit Waterloo tomorrow night.</p>
<p>Tickets for tonight's game- and all remaining RoughRider home games- can be purchased in person at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena ticket office, over the phone at (319) 261-4625 or on line at www.roughridershockey.com. The ticket office is open from noon to 5:00PM on weekdays and from noon through the end of the second period on game days.
