Game Summary: November 19, 2005- RoughRiders 4 Des Moines 3 (Shootout)

<p>November 19, 2005- Gary Steffes converted the deciding penalty shot as the RoughRiders defeated the host Des Moines Buccaneers 4-3 in a shootout Saturday night.</p> <p>Steffes put the puck past Des Moines goaltender Troy Davenport on the Riders' fifth penalty shot to give Cedar Rapids a 2-1 lead in the shootout. Rider netminder Al Stalock then stopped Trevor Lewis on the fifth and final Des Moines shootout bid to clinch the win.</p> <p>It seemed the Riders might take the game in regulation until Des Moines' Ben Van Lare buried a rebound from the doorstep to tie the score at three with just 1:28 left in the third period. Van Lare's goal capped off a rally that saw the Bucs come all the way back from 3-0 down to force overtime, and, after a scoreless five minutes of sudden death, the shootout.</p> <p>Trailing by three after the first period, the Bucs clawed their way back into the game with second period goals from Lewis and Alex Laseen. </p> <p>The Bucs kept the pressure on throughout the second and third periods and in overtime as they outshot the Riders 35-6 over the final 45 minutes. Stalock turned in a stalwart effort, making 49 saves in regulation and sudden death.</p> <p>The Riders jumped on the Bucs in the first period with three power play goals. </p> <p>David Strathman jammed a rebound in to open the scoring 7:02 into the game.</p> <p>The Riders were up 5-on-3 when Kevin Wehrs gave them a 2-0 lead with a blue line blast at the 12:18 mark.</p> <p>Ted Purcell snapped the puck past Davenport from the high slot to make it 3-0 with just over four minutes left in the opening period.</p> <P><A href="http://www.pointstreak.com/prostats/boxscore.html?gameid=232498" target=_blank>Box Score</A></P>
