<p>Billy Sauer made 35 saves as the Chicago Steel defeated the host RoughRiders 3-1 Saturday night. The loss was the RoughRiders’ first regulation defeat of the season.</p>
<p>After a scoreless first period, Nathaniel Brooks scored in a goalmouth scramble to give the Steel a 1-0 lead at 2:10 of the second period.</p>
<p>The Riders equalized when Phil Axtell weaved into the slot and snapped a wrist shot past Sauer at 8:11 of the second. </p>
<p>The deadlock lasted just 10 seconds however, as T.J. Fox controlled a faceoff and beat Cedar Rapids goaltender Alex Stalock on the short side from close range to put the Steel back on top at 8:21.</p>
<p>The RoughRiders were unable to tie the game a second time, despite throwing 17 shots at the Chicago net in the second period and 15 more in the third.</p>
