RoughRiders' Purcell Named Let's Play Hockey/USHL Offensive Player of the Week

November 8, 2005- Cedar Rapids RoughRiders center Ted Purcell has been named Let's Play Hockey/United States Hockey League Offensive Player of the Week. <P>Purcell, 20, earned the honor after scoring two goals and picking up four assists as the Riders won back-to-back road games last weekend.</P> <P>"Teddy is obviously a very skilled, very creative player," said RoughRiders Coach and General Manager Mark Carlson. "He has also worked hard to become the kind of player we can put on the ice in any situation."</P> <P>Purcell scored the clinching empty net goal and also had one assist last Friday in the Riders' 4-2 win over the Omaha Lancers. One night later, the St. John's, Newfoundland, native scored the Riders' first goal and assisted on three others in a 5-2 defeat of the Lincoln Stars.</P> <P>On the season, Purcell (7-13-20) is tied for the league lead in points and assists and is tied for seventh in goal scoring. The second year Rider is in the midst of a ten-game point-scoring streak.</P> <P>Purcell last year set Rider team records for assists (47) and points (67) in a single season and finished second in the league in assists and fourth in point-scoring. The Maine recruit also set club records for most assists (9) and points (14) in one postseason while helping the Riders to the first Clark Cup title in team history.</P> <P>Purcell and the RoughRiders (8-3-0, 16 points) are currently in second place in the USHL's East Division, one point behind the Des Moines Buccaneers. The Riders return to action with a pair of home games this weekend. The Riders will meet the Sioux City Musketeers Friday evening and take on the Sioux Falls Stampede Saturday night. Both games face off at 7:05PM.</P> <P>Tickets for this weekend's games-and all remaining RoughRider regular season home games- are now on sale. Tickets are available for purchase in person at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena ticket office, over the phone at (319) 261-4625 or on line at www.roughridershockey.com. The ticket office is open from noon to 5:00PM on weekdays and from noon through the end of the second period on game days. </P> <P>This Friday, the Dale Earnhardt Sr. #3 "Taz" Car arrives at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena. The #3 car will be on display during the RoughRiders' game against the Sioux City Musketeers. Earnhardt, who died in a final lap crash at the 2001 Daytona 500, won seven NASCAR championships and a total of 76 races over the course of a 27 year career. His son, Dale Earnhardt Jr., is currently one of NASCAR's top drivers and it will be Junior's car that will be at the ice arena this Saturday when the Riders host the Stampede.</P> <P>Ticket prices for this weekend's games range from $8 to $18. Tickets to this Friday's game enable fans to have access to the Dale Sr. car. Fans with tickets to Saturday's game will have exclusive access to the Dale Jr. car.</P>
