Game Summary: November 5, 2005- RoughRiders 5 Lincoln 2
<p>November 5, 2005- Chad Costello scored two goals and Alex Stalock made 33 saves- including 14 in the third period- as the RoughRiders defeated the host Lincoln Stars 5-2 Saturday night.</p>
<p>The Riders were already in front 2-1 when Costello scored what proved to be the game winning goal just 31 seconds into the second period. Costello steered home a Ted Purcell centering pass to extend the lead to 3-1. </p>
<p>The Riders were protecting a two goal lead late in the third period when Costello finished the Stars off with empty net goal. Costello buried another Purcell feed in the gaping net to extend the Cedar Rapids lead to 5-2 with just 1:12 left in regulation.</p>
<p>It was Purcell who opened the scoring six minutes into the game. Purcell cut into the goalmouth and fired the puck in under the cross bar to make it 1-0. That lead lasted just 42 seconds however, as Eli Vlaisavljevich quickly knotted the score at one with a drive from the blue line.</p>
<p>The Riders retook the lead for good when Nick Grasso scored from the left wing circle at 16:25 of the first.</p>
<p>After Costello extended the lead to two early in the second, the Riders protected the cushion through the remainder of the period.</p>
<p>The Stars, however, trimmed the deficit to 3-2 just one minute, eight seconds into the third period. Mike Davies snapped a drive from the left wing circle in off of Stalock to ignite the home crowd.</p>
<p>The Riders responded with a Phil Axtell power play goal at 6:09 of the third. Axtell buried the rebound after Lincoln netminder Steve Jakiel stopped his initial bid.</p>
