RoughRiders' Miele Commits to Miami of Ohio

November 1, 2005- Cedar Rapids RoughRiders forward Andy Miele has committed to Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, the RoughRiders announced today. Miele will begin his college career in the fall of 2007.

"This is certainly a great opportunity for Andy," said RoughRiders coach and general manager Mark Carlson "He is a fine young player who will have the chance to continue to develop at this level and then be a part of a strong program at Miami."

Miele, 17, is in his first season with the RoughRiders. The Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan native has scored two goals and picked up one assist in eight games this year. Miele sat out the Riders' last game- last Saturday's 5-4 loss to Des Moines- with a shoulder injury. Miele spent last season playing for the Detroit-area Little Ceasar's midget team.

Miele joins Gary Steffes as the second current RoughRider to commit to Miami. In addition, three members of last season's Clark Cup-winning Rider team are now Red Hawk freshman- forward Billy Loupee and defensemen Ray Eichenlaub and Alec Martinez.

Miami is off to a solid start this season. The Red Hawks, who are 3-1 overall, sit atop the Central Collegiate Hockey Association after winning their first two conference games.

Miele joins Steffes, Phil Axtell (Michigan Tech), Jacob Cepis (Bowling Green), Ray Kaunisto (Northern Michigan), Ted Purcell (Maine) and Alex Stalock (Minnesota-Duluth) as the seventh member of the 2005-06 RoughRiders to make a college commitment.

The Riders return to action with a pair of road games this weekend. The RoughRiders will visit the Omaha Lancers Friday evening and the Lincoln Stars Saturday night. Both games start at 7:05PM. The Riders (6-3-0, 12 points) are currently tied with the Indiana Ice for second place in the USHL's East Division, one point behind the division-leading Des Moines Buccaneers.

The Riders next take to the ice at home on Friday, November 11 (when they meet the Sioux City Musketeers) and Saturday, November 12 (when they take on the Sioux Falls Stampede). Both of those games also start at 7:05PM.

Tickets for November 11 and 12 games- and all remaining RoughRiders home games- are now on sale at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena ticket office. Tickets can be purchased over the phone at (319) 261-4625 or in person at the ice arena. The ticket office is open from noon to 5:00PM on weekdays and from noon through the end of the second period on game days.
