Game Summary: October 8, 2005- RoughRiders 4 Green Bay 2
<p>October 8, 2005- Ted Purcell scored twice in 61 seconds in the second period to propel the RoughRiders to a 4-2 home-opening win over the Green Bay Gamblers.</p>
<p>After a scoreless first period, a Phil Axtell power play goal gave the Riders a 1-0 lead just over two minutes into the second period. Axtell fired home a loose puck from the slot to break the deadlock.</p>
<p>The Riders doubled the lead when Purcell struck for his first off a give-and-go with Jacob Cepis at the 9:41 mark of the second.</p>
<p>The Riders were on the power play when Purcell buried a rebound to make it 3-0 at 10:15.</p>
<p>The Riders kept the momentum going later in the second by successfully killing off a five minute Green Bay power play.</p>
<p>The Gamblers finally got on the scoreboard on a great solo rush by Josh Brodeen at 6:28 of the third period.</p>
<p>The Riders responded a little more than three minutes later as Phil Fox swept the puck home from the doorstep to stretch the lead to 4-1.</p>
<p>The Gamblers again narrowed the gap to two goals when Brian Rohloff scored at 11:59 of the third, but Green Bay would get no closer.</p>
