RoughRiders to Raise Championship Banners at Saturday's Home Opener

October 6, 2005- The defending Clark Cup champion Cedar Rapids RoughRiders play their 2005-06 home opener Saturday night at 7:05PM against the Green Bay Gamblers.

Prior to the start of the home opener, the RoughRiders will celebrate their historic 2004-05 season by raising Clark Cup, Anderson Cup and East Division championship banners to the rafters of the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena. The Riders will also conduct a special number retirement ceremony as part of the pregame festivities.

In addition, all fans in attendance Saturday night will receive free 2005-06 RoughRiders magnet schedules.

Saturday evening is also the RoughRiders' first Food Drive Night of the season. The Riders and the Cedar Rapids Jaycees will again this season team up for monthly food drives to benefit the HACAP Food Reservoir. The Jaycees will collect canned food items at the RoughRiders' first Saturday home game of each month.

While ticket sales for Saturday night's game have been strong, seats are still available. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena ticket office, over the phone at (319) 261-4625 or on line at www.roughridershockey.com. The ticket office is open from noon to 5:00PM on weekdays and from noon through the end of the second period on game days, including Saturday. Ticket prices range from $7 to $17 including a 50-cent facility fee. Beginning with the home opener, the RoughRiders will be in action at the ice arena on four consecutive Saturday nights.

Before taking to the ice in Cedar Rapids for the first time this season, the Riders will open the weekend with a visit to the arch rival Black Hawks in Waterloo tomorrow night at 7:05. The Riders will play their third game in three days Sunday afternoon when they visit the Sioux City Musketeers at 4:05.

The RoughRiders enter the weekend having split their first two games. The Riders defeated the Tri-City Storm 3-1 in their season opener on September 24, in Kearney, Nebraska and then fell 4-2 to the Gamblers last Saturday in Green Bay. With a 1-1 record and two points, the Riders are tied for second place in the USHL's East Division.

RoughRiders regular season and playoff games are broadcast on AM-1360 The Fan in Cedar Rapids. Brian Lavelle provides play-by-play.

The broadcast of the Riders' game Sunday in Sioux City may be tape delayed. If the St. Louis Cardinals' National League Division Series with the San Diego Padres goes to a fourth game, The Fan would carry that game live Sunday afternoon at 3:00. The RoughRiders' game would air following the Cardinals' broadcast.

Courtesy of B2 Networks, free audio webcasts of Riders games are also available at www.roughridershockey.com. The RoughRiders and B2 have also teamed up to offer pay-per-view video webcasts of all RoughRiders games. Fans can click on the "Watch RoughRiders' Games Live" icon at www.roughridershockey.com to watch and listen to the game. The broadcast is available to fans with a high speed DSL or cable modem internet connection. The charge for video webcasts is $6 per game.
| Posted on Thursday, October 06, 2005 (Archive on Thursday, October 06, 2005)
