RoughRiders suffered their first loss last Saturday night in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Green Bay</st1:City></st1:place>, falling to the Gamblers 4-2.  <o:p></o:p>             An advantage in shots on goal has not been worth much in the Riders’ first two games.  The Riders lost last Saturday despite outshooting the Gamblers 29-27.  The Riders won their September 24 season opener in Tri-City 3-1 despite being outshot 42-25.<o:p></o:p>             This Friday the Riders and Black Hawks will renew the battle for the i wireless Corridor Cup, the trophy awarded to the winner of the Cedar Rapids-Waterloo regular season series.  The Riders took home the Corridor Cup last year after the Black Hawks had grabbed the hardware each of the prior two seasons.  Over the first six years of the Cedar Rapids-Waterloo rivalry, each team has won the Corridor Cup three times.  Each of the last two years, the winner of the Corridor Cup has gone on to win the United States Hockey League Clark Cup title.<o:p></o:p>             The Riders are 3-3 all-time in home openers.  The Riders won their first home game last season, defeating <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Waterloo</st1:place></st1:City> 4-1 on October 16.<o:p></o:p>             Sunday’s game is the first regular season meeting between the Riders and Sioux City Musketeers since the Riders defeated <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Sioux City</st1:place></st1:City> 4-1 on May 9 in the fifth and deciding game of the 2005 Clark Cup Finals.  The two teams did face each other last month at the Buc Bowl preseason tournament in <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Des Moines</st1:place></st1:City>, with the Musketeers picking up a 3-2 win.<o:p></o:p>             Two weeks into the regular season, the Black Hawks are the only team in the USHL with a perfect record.  Last Saturday in their home opener the Black Hawks defeated <st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Indiana</st1:place></st1:State> 3-1. <o:p></o:p>             The Black Hawks bring back eight players from the club that last season finished second behind the Riders in the East Division.  Foremost among the returnees is goaltender Joe Grossman, who has backstopped the Hawks to victory in each of their first two games.  <o:p></o:p>             Former Tri-City forward Cody Chupp and third year Hawk Zach Bearson have notched at least two points apiece in each of the Hawks’ first two games.<o:p></o:p>             <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Green Bay</st1:place></st1:City> bounced back from a pair of opening weekend losses to defeat the Riders last Saturday.  The Gamblers jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead over the Riders and have outscored opponents 6-0 in the first period of their first three games.<o:p></o:p>             Second year defenseman Chris Stansik (1-3-4) has paced the Gambler attack early.<o:p></o:p>             <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Sioux City</st1:place></st1:City> suffered a pair of gut wrenching 5-4 overtime losses last weekend.  Last Friday in <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Lincoln</st1:place></st1:City>, the Musketeers gave up the tying goal with just three seconds left in regulation and then surrendered the game winner just 18 seconds into overtime.  The Muskies erased a 4-0 deficit one night later against Tri-City only to surrender the game winner with just five seconds left in overtime.<o:p></o:p>             No team in the league has scored or allowed more goals than the Musketeers, who have both produced and given up 13 goals.<o:p></o:p>             Former Lincoln Star Ryan Hohl (2-3-5) leads the <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Waterloo</st1:place></st1:City>.  The Black Hawks jumped in front 3-0 as Bearson opened the scoring at 7:55 of the first period, Vincent Lo Verde doubled the lead less than two minutes later and Bearson struck again just 2:40 into the second period.  Lucas Klimek’s goal midway through the second period got the Ice on the scoreboard, but <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Waterloo</st1:place></st1:City> goaltender Joe Grossman (31 saves) shut the door the rest of the way.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Green first period.  Steve Silva scored on the power play with just 3.4 seconds left in the first to double the lead.  Rohloff’s first goal came at 4:48 of the second and would prove to be the game winner. Chris Vande Velde’s game winner just 18 seconds into overtime.  The Musketeers’ run of four straight goals was started by Sam Gagner at 16:58 of the second period.  Frank Grzeszczak narrowed the <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Lincoln</st1:place></st1:City> lead to 3-2 at 3:43 of the third period.  At 11:52 Chris Minella evened the score.  Phillip DeSimone capped off the <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Sioux City</st1:place></st1:City> comeback with a goal at 15:57 of the third that momentarily brought the Musketeers to the brink of victory.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> play goals, the Musketeers roared back by scoring four times themselves in just over ten minutes in the second period.  Goals 41 seconds apart from Ryan Hohl (8:11) and Andrew Rowe (8:52) cut the Tri-City lead in half.  Hohl scored shorthanded to narrow the gap to one at 12:01.  Dustin Gazely evened the score with 1:46 left in the second.<o:p></o:p>
