Preseason Game Summary: September 15, 2005- RoughRiders 9 IFK Helsinki 3

<p>September 15, 2005- Aaron Bendickson, Andy Miele and Ian Slater scored two goals apiece as the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders rolled out to a 7-0 lead and never looked back on the way to a 9-3 hammering of IFK Helsinki in the opener of the Buc Bowl preseason tournament today. </p> <p>Bendickson opened the Riders' onslaught with a goal just one minute thirty-two seconds into the game. </p> <p>The lead was 2-0 after Slater scored at 4:31 of the first period.</p> <p>The Riders broke the game open late in the first by exploding for four goals in a span of just over five minutes. Jordan Pietrus' unassisted goal extended the Rider lead to three at 13:26. At 15:32, Bendickson's second goal of the period made it 4-0. Back-to-back power play goals from Miele (on a 5-on-3) at 17:04 and Evan Stephens at 18:47 enabled the Riders to take a 6-0 lead into the first intermission.</p> <p>The Riders outshot IFK 21-6 in the first twenty minutes.</p> <p>Just 57 seconds into the second period Ray Kaunisto produced the seventh straight Rider goal.</p> <p>Peter Freiberg finally put IFK on the scoreboard at 11:46 of the second.</p> <p>The Riders responded with a pair of goals in the final four minutes of the second. Miele's second of the day pushed the lead to 8-1 at 16:13. Slater scored his second with just 24 seconds left in the period to expand the Rider advantage to a game-high eight goals. Phil Axtell picked up his third assist of the game on Slater's second goal.</p> <p>A pair of third period goals from IFK's Janne Keranen had zero impact on the one-sided outcome.</p> <p>Al Stalock earned the win in goal for the Riders by stopping all six shots he faced in the first period. Pat McGann replaced Stalock at the start of the second and went the rest of the way.</p> <p>The Riders will be back in Urbandale tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 to meet Sioux City for the first time since defeating the Musketeers in last spring's Clark Cup finals. The Riders will close out the Buc Bowl when they take on the Lincoln Stars on Saturday at 2:30PM.</p>
