Preseason Game Summary: September 12, 2005- RoughRiders 5 Waterloo 7

<p>September 12, 2005- A RoughRider comeback bid came up just short Monday night as the host Riders fell to the Waterloo Black Hawks 7-5 in preseason action.</p> <p>The Riders scored three goals in a span of just over five minutes in the second of two twenty-five minute periods to cut what had been a 6-2 Waterloo lead to just one goal. Jordan Pietrus' power play goal, Ted Purcell's breakaway strike and Nick Grasso's point blank finish enabled the Riders to close the gap to 6-5 less than midway through the period.</p> <p>However, the Black Hawks' Matt Arhontas responded with a crucial insurance goal at 15:36.</p> <p>The Riders had originally jumped out to a shortlived 2-0 advantage on goals by Phil Axtell and Luka Vidmar before allowing six straight Waterloo goals. Waterloo's Andy Bombach and Christian Jensen scored power play goals just 50 seconds apart to knot the score at two apiece midway throught the first. James Marcou snapped the deadlock at the 14:31 mark and Bombach struck again late in the period to extend the lead to 4-2 heading into the intermission.</p> <p>The Waterloo lead stretched to three when Mitch Ryan scored the Hawks' third power play goal of the night just under three minutes into the second period. A mere 38 second later, Mike Testwuide found the net to make it 6-2.</p>
