The RoughRiders scored a wild 6-5 shootout win over the host Indiana Ice Sunday evening as Ted Purcell and Jon Grabarek converted the Riders’ first two penalty shots while Cedar Rapids goaltender Alex Stalock stopped four of five Ice shootout chances.

The shootout capped off a 65 minute roller coaster of a game that went to overtime after the RoughRiders deadlocked the score at five on Erik Felde’s bad angle goal at 11:05 of the third period.

Felde’s equalizer came on the heels of a pair of Indiana third period goals that had enabled the Ice to turn a 4-3 deficit into a 5-4 lead. Tristin Llewellyn’s blue line blast tied the score just 1:24 into the third. Indiana went on top when Ryan Peckskamp scored from the right wing circle at 9:05.

The Riders were able to take the lead into the third after erasing a 3-0 Indiana advantage with a four goal outburst in a five minute thirteen second span of the second period.

Just one minute thirteen seconds after the puck bounced off the skate of Indiana’s Brian Gifford and through Stalock’s legs for the third Ice goal, Rob Ricci chipped the puck in from the side of the net to put Cedar Rapids on the scoreboard at 5:43 of the second.

Ted Purcell wired a Jon Grabarek feed home from the doorstep to bring the Riders back within one at 8:54.

The RoughRiders then tied the game at three while on the power play as Matt Vokes jammed home a rebound at 10:36.

Just 20 seconds later, the RoughRiders moved in front when Billy Loupee buried another rebound.

In the first period there was scant indication that such offensive fireworks were on the way from the RoughRiders, as the Ice found the net twice in the opening twenty minutes.

Indiana was shorthanded when Colin Vock opened the scoring 8:42 into the game. Vock broke down the slot and fired a backhander between Stalock’s pad’s.

The Ice doubled the lead when Sergei Kukushkin slammed in an Eric Miller centering pass at 14:46 of the first.
