Preseason Game Summary: September 10, 2005- RoughRiders 7 Des Moines 4

September 10, 2005- The host RoughRiders broke loose for their biggest offensive outburst of the preseason in a 7-4 win over the Des Moines Buccaneers Saturday night at the Coral Ridge Ice Arena.

Chad Costello keyed the RoughRider attack with two goals and one assist and Dustin Cloutier and Brett Dickinson both notched one goal and two assists.

The Riders scored three goals in both the second and third periods. Cedar Rapids entered the third protecting a slender 4-3 lead, but goals in the final frame from Nik Sellers, Dickinson and Costello put Des Moines away.

After the first period ended with the score tied at a goal apiece, back-to-back second period goals from Cloutier and Jordan Pietrus gave the Riders a 3-1 lead. The Bucs bounced back within one when Aaron Paulshaj scored at 13:28 of the second. Ted Purcell would push the Rider lead to 4-2 with 3:56 left in the period, but Des Moines was back within a goal just 1:27 later when Colin Vock scored unassisted.

It was Costello who opened the scoring at 11:12 of the first period. The Bucs' Shane Sims found the net at 17:43 to knot things up.

Saturday evening's win was the Riders' second in three exhibition games and came one night after a 4-2 loss in Des Moines.
