RoughRiders Announce 2005-06 Promotion Schedule
<P><B>July 27, 2005</B>- The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders today released a 2005-06 promotions schedule highlighted by the raising of championship banners on opening night and the November arrival of the Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Dale Earnhardt Jr. cars at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.</P>
<P>The Riders will celebrate their historic title-winning 2004-05 season by raising Clark Cup, Anderson Cup and East Division championship banners prior to their October 8 home opener against the Green Bay Gamblers. In addition, the home opener will also see the Riders conduct a special number retirement ceremony before the start of the game. </P>
<P>The Riders this season will bring back more popular NASCAR-themed promotions, welcoming first the Dale Earnhardt Sr. #3 Taz Car on Friday November 11 when the Riders meet the Sioux City Musketeers and then the Dale Earnhardt Jr. #8 Bud Car the following evening when the Sioux Falls Stampede visit the ice arena.</P>
<P>“We’re very excited about this season’s slate of promotions,” said RoughRiders Vice President of Operations Jim Calpin. “We think there should be something for just about everyone this season. Combining such a strong series of appearances and promotions with the defending Clark Cup champions on the ice should make for a lot of fun this season.”</P>
<P>Many of this season’s promotions will appeal to young fans, none more so than the appearance of SpongeBob SquarePants at the Saturday, February 4 game between the RoughRiders and Sioux City. The RoughRiders will also welcome Dora the Explorer on Saturday, January 14 when they host the Chicago Steel and Scooby Doo on Saturday, March 11 when Green Bay visits the ice arena.</P>
<P>There will be more fun for the whole family on Saturday, October 15 at the ice arena as the Riders host “Mascot Day.” Mascots from all over eastern Iowa will join the Riders’ mascot, Ricochet, for an evening of shenanigans as the Riders take on Sioux City.</P>
<P>The Riders will host a Marvel Comics superhero double feature during their Saturday, January 21 game against Chicago as The Thing- of Fantastic Four fame- is joined by Spiderman at the ice arena.</P>
<P>The Riders will team up with the University of Iowa Ice Hawks for a pair of hockey double headers. The Hawkeye-Cyclone rivalry will take to the ice on Saturday, October 29. The Iowa and Iowa State hockey teams will meet at 3:30PM, before the RoughRiders and Des Moines Buccaneers clash at 7:05PM. The Ice Hawks will return to the ice arena to play Missouri-St. Louis in the opener of another double header on Saturday, February 11 at 4:00PM. The Riders will complete the twin bill with a 7:05PM game against the Omaha Lancers.</P>
<P>Fans will have a unique opportunity to get into the act on the ice on Saturday, December 3- they will be given the chance to shoot on a RoughRider goaltender following the Riders’ game against Omaha.</P>
<P>In addition to watching explosive action on the ice, RoughRiders fans will have a chance to enjoy fireworks displays outside the ice arena following the Riders’ games on Saturday, October 22, Thursday, December 29 and Saturday, March 18.</P>
<P>Other highlights of the promotional schedule include:</P>

<LI>All fans attending the October 8 home opener will receive free 2005-06 RoughRiders magnet schedules.<BR>
<LI>The Riders will host All Faith Night on Friday, November 18, when they welcome local church groups to their game against Des Moines.<BR>
<LI>The Riders will host their third annual Teddy Bear Toss on December 10, 2005 when the Indiana Ice visits Cedar Rapids. Fans are encouraged to toss their stuffed animals onto the ice after the Riders score their first goal against the Ice. The teddy bears will then be collected and donated to children in need just in time for Christmas.<BR>
<LI>Friday, January 27 will be Guns & Hoses Night as the RoughRiders pay tribute to local fire, police and rescue personnel during the Riders’ game against Green Bay.<BR>
<LI>Jumping Jack, everyone’s favorite roly, poly mascot, will return to the ice arena on Friday, February 10 when the RoughRiders meet the Tri-City Storm.<BR>
<LI>Fans will be able to feel the force on Friday, February 24- Star Wars Night. Characters from the Star Wars movies will invade the ice arena during the Riders’ game against Indiana.<BR>
<LI>Fans will be able to take advantage of drink specials at ice arena concession stands during three late season games: Thursday, February 16 against Des Moines, Friday, February 24 against Indiana and Tuesday, March 21 against Sioux Falls.</LI></UL><BR>
<P>More 2005-06 promotions will be announced in the coming weeks. 2005-06 RoughRiders season tickets are currently available through the Riders’ business office (247-0340). Fans who pay for season tickets in full before August 31 will receive a discount in addition to a host of other benefits available exclusively to season ticket holders. </P>
<P>The RoughRiders last season won the first Clark Cup (playoff) title in team history and also claimed a share of the Anderson Cup (regular season) title for the first time ever.
