<p>June 29, 2005 - The Clark Cup Champion Cedar Rapids RoughRiders will team up with the Iowa and Iowa State hockey teams for a double header on Saturday, October 29 at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena, the RoughRiders announced today.</p> <p>The Hawkeyes and Cyclones will face off at 3:30PM. The RoughRiders and Des Moines Buccaneers will complete the twin bill at 7:05PM.</p> <p>This is the second year in a row that the Riders and Hawkeyes have played a doubleheader at the ice arena. Iowa met the University of Northern Iowa prior to a RoughRiders game last season. </p> <p>&#8220;We&#8217;re excited to be working together with the University of Iowa and Iowa State to again this season bring a hockey doubleheader to the fans of eastern Iowa,&#8221; said RoughRiders Vice President of Operations Jim Calpin. &#8220;Last season&#8217;s doubleheader was quite a success and we are happy to be continuing the tradition this season with a game between these two great rivals.&#8221; </p> <p>One ticket will cover admission to both games of the doubleheader. Single game tickets for the 2005-06 season will go on sale on a date to be announced. </p> <p>The doubleheader will mark the Cyclone hockey team&#8217;s first appearance at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.</p> <p>&#8220;We think this is the beginning of a great series and a sign of the future,&#8221; said Iowa State coach Al Murdoch. &#8220;Hockey is the fastest growing sport in the world and Iowa is no exception. We&#8217;re excited to be playing at such a great facility for what could turn out to be the championship of college hockey in Iowa.&#8221; </p> <p>Iowa State finished last season twelfth in the American College Hockey Association&#8217;s Division I rankings. The Cyclones, who qualified for the ACHA National Tournament, finished the season with a record of 18-19-3.</p> <p>Last season Iowa won the Division II Mid-American College Hockey Association Silver Division tournament. The Hawkeyes went 14-9-1 overall. </p> <p>The RoughRiders will open the 2005-06 season on September 24 when they meet the Tri-City Storm in Kearney, Nebraska. The Riders will open on home ice on Saturday, October 8 when they play host to the Green Bay Gamblers at 7:05PM.</p> <p>2005-06 RoughRiders season tickets are currently available through the Riders&#8217; business office (247-0340). Fans who pay for season tickets in full before August 31 will receive a discount in addition to a host of other benefits available exclusively to season ticket holders.</p> <p>The RoughRiders last season won the first United States Hockey League Clark Cup (playoff) title in team history and also claimed a share of the Anderson Cup (regular season) title for the first time ever. The Riders went 42-13-5 last season, the best record in team history.</p>
