June 20, 2005- The Clark Cup Champion Cedar Rapids RoughRiders today released their 2005-06 shedule. The Riders will raise the team’s first ever championship banner to the rafters of the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena on Saturday, October 8, when they play their home opener against the Green Bay Gamblers.

Including the home opener, the Riders will play 25 of their 30 home games on either Friday or Saturday. The Riders will play 10 Friday games and 15 Saturday contests.

“We’re very excited about playing so many of our home games on Fridays and Saturdays this season. This is a very fan-friendly schedule,” said RoughRiders Vice President of Operations Jim Calpin. “It looks like this is going to be another very memorable season, one we can’t wait to get started.”

The Riders will begin the 60-game United States Hockey League season with three straight road games. The Riders open the campaign on Saturday, September 24, when they take on the Tri-City Storm in Kearney, Nebraska. The Riders then travel to Green Bay to meet the Gamblers on Saturday, October 1. The arch rival Waterloo Black Hawks will no doubt provide a warm welcome on Friday, October 7, when the Riders visit Young Arena in Waterloo for the first time.

The Riders will meet the Sioux City Musketeers for the first time since defeating the Muskies three games to two in last month’s Clark Cup Finals when they visit Sioux City on Sunday, October 9. On Veterans’ Day- Friday, November 11- the Musketeers will make their first appearance at the ice arena since game five of the finals.

The Riders will battle the Black Hawks in Cedar Rapids for the first time on Wednesday, November 23- the night before Thanksgiving. The rivals will complete their traditional holiday home-and-home series the following evening in Waterloo.

The Riders and Hawks will meet a total of seven times over the course of the season as Cedar Rapids attempts to hold on to the i wireless Corridor Cup, the trophy awarded to the winner of the regular season series between the two clubs. The Riders last season won the Corridor Cup for the first time since 2001-02.

The Riders will visit Waterloo four times and host three games against the Black Hawks. In addition to their November visit to the ice arena, the Hawks will also take on the Riders in Cedar Rapids on January 7 and March 10.

The RoughRiders will also face each of their other four East Division rivals- Chicago, Des Moines, Green Bay and Indiana- seven times. The Riders will face the five clubs in the West Division (Lincoln, Omaha, Sioux City, Sioux Falls and Tri-City) five times. The first half of the Riders’ schedule is heavy on road games, the second half laden with home games. The Riders will play 19 of their first 30 games on the road and then play 19 of their final 30 at home. From November 24 through January 6, the Riders will play ten of 13 games on the road. They will play four of their last five games and seven of their final nine games on home ice.
