Rough Riders to Play Exhibition Game at Coral Ridge Mall

June 16, 2005- The Clark Cup Champion Cedar Rapids RoughRiders will play an exhibition game at the Coral Ridge Mall’s Coral Ridge Ice Arena in Coralville on Saturday, September 10 at 7:05PM.

“We are very excited about playing an exhibition game at the Coral Ridge Ice Arena and we’re looking forward to doing a lot more promotionally in the Coralville/Iowa City area,” said RoughRiders Vice President of Operations Jim Calpin.

The RoughRiders will take on the Des Moines Buccaneers in a game that will mark the team’s return to the rink that served as the Riders’ practice home in their first season in eastern Iowa. The Riders practiced at the Coral Ridge Ice Arena for the first half of the 1999-2000 season prior to the completion of the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena in January of 2000.

“It’s excellent to have an exhibition game at the south end of the corridor,” said Iowa City Area Chamber of Commerce President Jim Griffin. “This game is something that people who have not had the opportunity to go to a game in Cedar Rapids will have a chance to attend. Having the RoughRiders and junior hockey in the corridor provides a significant entertainment value to the entire corridor. The games are a lot of fun and the RoughRiders organization engages the community on many levels.”

The RoughRiders are fresh off winning the first United States Hockey League Clark Cup (playoff) title in team history and also claiming a share of the Anderson Cup (regular season) title for the first time ever. The Riders went 42-13-5 last season, the best record in team history.

2005-06 RoughRiders full and partial season ticket packages are now on sale at the Riders’ business office (247-0340). Tickets for the September 10 exhibition game will go on sale at a later date.
| Posted on Friday, June 17, 2005 (Archive on Friday, June 17, 2005)
