Game Summary: April 24, 2005- RoughRiders 4 Chicago 2

The RoughRiders qualified for the Clark Cup finals for the first time by completing a three game sweep of the East Division finals with a 4-2 win over the host Chicago Steel Sunday night.

Ted Purcell broke a 2-2 tie with a power play goal at 5:13 of the third period. Purcell fired the puck home from the left wing circle just 1:42 after Kevin Swallow tied the score for Chicago.

The Steel pressured for a tying goal late in regulation, pulling goaltender Shane Connelly and then benefiting from a Rider penalty that created a 6-on-4 advantage for Chicago. However, Rider goaltender Alex Stalock (44 saves) kept the Steel at bay until Rob Ricci fired the puck into the empty Chicago net from his own slot with just 31 seconds left.

Swallow’s goal was the Steel’s second straight scored off a rebound on the power play. The Riders held a 2-0 lead until David Marshall steered the puck the goal line to put Chicago on the scoreboard at 15:25 of the second.

The Riders built their 2-0 advantage thanks to Shane Lovdahl’s first period blue line blast and Jordan Pietrus’s second period shorthanded breakaway.

Box Score
