Game Summary: April 22, 2005- RoughRiders 2 Chicago 1 (OT)

Matt Vokes scored at 18:17 of overtime Saturday night to give the host RoughRiders a 2-1 win over the Chicago Steel and a two games to none lead in the best-of-five East Division finals.

Vokes tipped in Shane Lovdahl’s drive from the left point to end an epic night of hockey.

Rider goaltender Alex Stalock turned in a heroic 43-save effort, just outdueling Chicago netminder Shane Connelly (42 saves).

At eleven minutes of overtime it seemed for an instant that the Steel had scored the game winner, but referee Mark Lemelin disallowed the Chicago goal, ruling that David Marshall knocked the puck into the Rider net with his hand.

Chicago’s Nate Perkovich, a former Rider, scored the goal that eventually forced overtime. Perkovich jammed the puck home from the side of the net to tie the score at one at 12:09 of the third period.

Alec Martinez’s second period goal had given the Riders a 1-0 lead. Martinez snapped the puck past Connelly from the slot at the 8:08 mark of the second.
