RoughRiders’ Home Opener Saturday: Waterloo Visits Ice Arena; Fireworks, Schedule Giveaway On Tap

October 13, 2004 - The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders play their 2004-05 home opener this Saturday night at 7:05 as the Waterloo Black Hawks visit the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.

The Riders head into Saturday’s game with plenty of momentum. Coach Mark Carlson’s squad is already off to a strong start, having finished a season opening stretch of three straight road games with an impressive 2-0-1 record. Now the Riders look to make the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena a venue where opponents tread lightly.

"We want to be more physical on the ice and create a fun and wild atmosphere in the arena. We want visiting teams to dread coming to Cedar Rapids to face our players and our fans,” said RoughRiders CEO Michael Reinsdorf.

The opening night excitement goes beyond the hard hitting on-ice action, however. The RoughRiders will kick off a season full of exciting promotions this Saturday. Fans attending the home opener will receive free RoughRiders 2004-05 magnet schedules courtesy of AM-1360 The Fan, Aspen Athletic Club, i wireless and Lindale Mall. After an evening of explosive hockey action, fans will be treated to a fireworks show outside the arena at the conclusion of the game.

"It's important to us that we introduce different promotions and fan experiences throughout the season to keep the entertainment fresh," said Reinsdorf.

The RoughRiders will also use the opening night festivities as an opportunity to give back to the community. The Riders and the Cedar Rapids Jaycees will team up Saturday night for their first monthly food drive of the season to benefit HACAP Food Reservoir. The Jaycees will collect canned food items at the RoughRiders’ first Saturday home game of each month through the end of the regular season.

Tickets for the home opener- and all RoughRiders first half home games- are now on sale at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena ticket office. Tickets can be purchased over the phone at (319) 261-4625 or in person at the ice arena. The ticket office is open from noon to 5:00PM on weekdays and from noon through the end of the second period on game days. Ticket prices range from $8.00 to $17.00 including a 50-cent facility fee.
