RoughRiders, Chicago Collide in East Division Finals

<p>April 17, 2005- The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders will meet the Chicago Steel in the best-of-five United States Hockey League East Division finals beginning Wednesday night 7:05 at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.</p> <p>The Riders will also host game two Friday at 7:05PM. The series will shift to Bensenville, Illinois, for game two next Sunday at 5:05PM. If necessary, a fourth game would be played in Bensenville on Monday, April 25 at 8:05PM. If a fifth game is required to decide the series, it would take place on Wednesday, April 27 in Cedar Rapids at 7:05PM.</p> <p>The Riders advanced to the division finals (the Clark Cup semi-finals) by sweeping the Indiana Ice in three straight games in round one. The Riders closed out the Ice with a 5-4 overtime win in game three last Tuesday night in Indianapolis.</p> <p>The Steel secured its spot in the second round with a 3-2 overtime victory in game five of its opening round series with the Waterloo Black Hawks last night in Waterloo. The Steel came all the way back from a two games to none deficit to take to win three straight games and take the series. By knocking off the defending Clark Cup champion Black Hawks, the Steel set the stage for the first ever Cedar Rapids-Chicago post season match-up.</p> <p>The Riders (42-13-5, 89 points) won the regular season division title and earned a share of the Anderson Cup for the first time in club history by finishing tied for first overall with the Omaha Lancers. </p> <p>This marks the third time in the last four years that the Riders have reached the Clark Cup semi-finals. The Riders are also one of just three USHL teams who have reached the playoffs each of the last five years.</p> <p>The Steel (26-29-5, 57 points) finished the regular season in third place in the east. The Steel&#8217;s opening round win over the Black Hawks was the first playoff series victory since the team arrived in Chicago in 2000-01.</p> <p>During the regular season, the Riders went 6-2 in eight games against the Steel.</p> <p>Second round playoff tickets are currently on sale at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena ticket office (261-4625). Playoff ticket prices range from $9 to $18.
