Game Summary: April 12, 2005- RoughRiders 5 Indiana 4 (OT)
<p>Phil Axtell scored at 4:16 of overtime to give the RoughRiders a 5-4 win over the host Indiana Ice Tuesday night and a three games to none victory in the first round playoff of series between the two teams.</p>
<p>Axtell’s game winner- his second goal of the night- secured a second round match-up with either the Waterloo Black Hawks or Chicago Steel for the Riders.</p>
<p>Axtell charged into the goalmouth to bury a Jon Grabarek centering pass and end the Ice’s season.</p>
<p>The Riders’ Gary Steffes scored with 5:21 left in regulation to tie the score at four and force overtime. Indiana goaltender James Kohout knocked down an Alex Martinez shot, but Steffes was on hand to bury the rebound.</p>
<p>The Steffes equalizer came just over two minutes after Ryan Peckskamp had put Indiana on top 4-3. Peckskamp’s wraparound goal gave the Ice its first lead of the game and capped off Indiana’s comeback from a 3-1 deficit.</p>
<p>The Ice might have done more damage in the third period, were it not for Tormey’s 22-save effort in the third.</p>
<p>Tomas Klempa sparked the Ice comeback with a pair of second period goals. The Ice narrowed the deficit to 3-2 when Klempa’s shot from the high slot broke into the net off of Rider goaltender Dan Tormey’s glove.</p>
<p>Klempa tied the game with 1:05 left in the second when his shot from the right wing circle was deflected over Tormey’s glove.</p>
<p>Early on, it appeared there might be an easy evening in store for the Riders as Cedar Rapids built a 3-1 lead. </p>
<p>Axtell swept the puck home from the side of the net to open the scoring 10:21 into the game.</p>
<p>The Riders extended the lead to 2-0 just 1:23 later while on the power play. Ray Eichenlaub converted a Matt Vokes centering pass for the Riders’ second.</p>
<p>Brian Gifford got the Ice on the scoreboard when he swept the puck under Tormey from the high slot at 14:39 of the second. </p>
<p>The Riders were able to take a two goal lead into the first intermission after Ted Purcell scored the second Cedar Rapids power play goal of the opening period. Purcell flipped the puck in off Kohout from the high slot with 1:59 left in the period.</p>
