RoughRiders Clinch Share of Anderson Cup Title

<IMG hspace=20 src="/content/Portals/5/AndersonCup.gif" align=right border=0> <br><P>April 3, 2005- The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders clinched a share of the United States Hockey League’s Anderson Cup regular season title with a 4-2 win over the Green Bay Gamblers in the final game of the regular season last night in Green Bay.</P><br><P>With a record of 42-13-5 and 89 points, the Riders end the campaign tied with the Omaha Lancers for first place overall. The Lancers (41-12-7, 89 points) secured their share of the Anderson Cup by defeating the Des Moines Buccaneers 4-2 in Council Bluffs last night.</P><br><P>“This is obviously an achievement we’re very proud of,” said RoughRiders coach and general manager Mark Carlson. “We’ve worked very hard as team to reach this point, but we know that there is still more we want to accomplish before we stop playing this season.”</P><br><P>This marks the first time in the team’s six-year history that the Riders have finished first overall. In addition to bringing home the Anderson Cup, the Riders also won the East Division title for the first time in club history. Along the way this season, the Riders set new team records for wins, points and goals and a new USHL record for most away wins (24).</P><br><P>The Riders picked up their final win of the regular season despite being outshot 50-29 by the Gamblers last night. Rider goaltender Dan Tormey made 48 saves while Jordan Pietrus, Justin Abdelkader, Brandon Svendsen and Erik Felde provided the Cedar Rapids goals.</P><br><P>The Riders will return to action this Friday night at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena when they open their best-of-five first round Clark Cup playoff series against the Indiana Ice. The Riders will host game two Saturday night, before the series shifts to Indianapolis next Tuesday night for game three. If it a fourth game is necessary, it would be played next Thursday, also in Indianapolis. If the series goes the distance, the fifth and deciding game would be played Saturday, April 16, in Cedar Rapids. All games in the series will start at 7:05PM.</P><br><P>This is the Riders’ fifth straight trip to Clark Cup playoffs. Last year, the Riders were eliminated in the opening round three games to one by the Danville Wings. The Danville franchised moved to Indiana to become the Ice in the offseason. The Riders dominated the regular season series with the Ice this year, going 8-0 against Indiana.</P><br><P>First round playoff tickets are currently on sale at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena ticket office (261-4625). Playoff ticket prices range from $9 to $18. Tickets for only the first round of the playoffs are currently available. Tickets for the second and third rounds- should the Riders advance- will go on sale at a later date. First round playoff tickets are already included in season ticket holders’ packages.</P>
