Hawkeye All-American Matt Roth to Appear at RoughRiders’ April 9 Playoff Game

March 31, 2004- The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders will welcome Matt Roth, the University of Iowa’s All-American Defensive End, to the Riders’ Saturday, April 9 first round United States Hockey League playoff game at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.

Roth will sign autographs at the ice arena from 6:30 to 8:00PM as the Riders play game two of their opening round series. Autographs will be available free of charge with paid admission to the game, which begins at 7:05PM. Fans are encouraged to arrive early in order to be sure of receiving an autograph. A limit of two autographs per person will be in effect.

As many observers expect Roth to be selected in the first round of the upcoming National Football League draft, this appearance will give Cedar Rapids area Hawkeye fans the chance to wish him well before he embarks on his professional career.

Roth, a 22-year old native of Villa Park, Illinois, earned 2004 Associated Press Second Team All-America Honors and was also a unanimous First Team All-Big 10 selection. Roth had 8 sacks and 49 tackles last season as the Hawkeyes rolled to a 10-2 record, a share of the Big 10 title and a last second victory over Louisiana State in the Capitol One Bowl.

The RoughRiders (40-13-5, 85 points), who have already clinched the USHL’s East Division title, finish the regular season with a pair of road games against the Green Bay Gamblers tomorrow night and Saturday evening. The Riders will meet the fourth place finisher in the east- either the Indiana Ice or Green Bay- in the opening round of the post season.

Tickets for the April 9 game- and all RoughRiders first round home games- are now on sale at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena ticket office. The RoughRiders will open the playoffs at home on Friday, April 8. Both game one and game two of the Riders’ first round series will face off at 7:05PM. Dates for game three and, if necessary, games four and five of that series will not be finalized until the identity of the Riders’ opening round opponent is determined.

First round playoff tickets are available for purchase at the ice arena or over the phone at 261-4625. Playoff ticket prices range from $9 to $18.
| Posted on Friday, April 01, 2005 (Archive on Friday, April 01, 2005)
