Any combination of points gained in the standings by the RoughRiders or points lost by <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Omaha</st1:place></st1:City> totaling five will result in the Riders locking <o:p></o:p> up first place overall for the first time in team history.<o:p></o:p> The Riders defeated <st1:City w:st="on">Green Bay</st1:City> last Thursday and <st1:City w:st="on">Chicago</st1:City> last Friday on home ice and won in <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Waterloo</st1:place></st1:City> last <o:p></o:p> Saturday. The Riders outscored their three opponents 18-4 last week.<o:p></o:p> Last Saturday’s 4-1 win over the Black Hawks was the Riders’ fortieth of the season. This is the first time in club history that the Riders have won forty games in a season. The Riders cracked the eighty point barrier for the first time in team history with last Thursday’s 6-1 win over <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Green Bay</st1:place></st1:City>.<o:p></o:p> The Riders have won five straight on the road and are 18-1 in their last 19 road games. Last Saturday’s win was the Riders’ twenty-second away from home this season, a league record.<o:p></o:p> At 22-3-1 away from home, the Riders are far and away the best road team in the USHL. The Riders have a better winning percentage on the road (.865) than at home, where they have gone 18-8-4 (.667).<o:p></o:p> All four of the Riders’ remaining regular season games are on the road.<o:p></o:p> The Riders remain the USHL’s best offensive team and rank second in the league defensively. The Riders score an average of 3.9 goals per game and give up 2.6 goals per contest. <o:p></o:p> The Riders remain atop the league on the power play (23.6 percent). <o:p></o:p> Riders captain Rob Ricci has recorded points in eleven straight games, breaking the team record for longest point scoring streak. Ricci has scored eight goals and totaled 17 points during that run.<o:p></o:p> <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Sioux City</st1:place></st1:City> has won three straight games and gone 7-1-1 in its last nine games to maintain its grip on third place in the West Division. The Musketeers are three points ahead of fourth place Tri-City, on whom <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Sioux City</st1:City></st1:place> has two game in hand.<o:p></o:p> The Musketeers remain on course for a first round playoff match-up with the second place Lincoln Stars. The Musketeers host the Stars tonight.<o:p></o:p> Last weekend, the Musketeers opened a six-game homestand with a pair of wins. The Musketeers defeated the Des Moines Buccaneers 4-3 in a shootout last Thursday and dropped <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Waterloo</st1:place></st1:City> 7-2 last Friday.<o:p></o:p> The Tri-City Storm clinched a Clark Cup playoff berth last Saturday with its sixth straight win, a 6-4 victory over the Stars in <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Lincoln</st1:place></st1:City>. That win completed a weekend in which the Storm beat each of the top two teams in the West Division. Tri-City defeated <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Omaha</st1:City></st1:place> 3-1 last Friday.<o:p></o:p> Veteran Christian Hanson (16-33-49) leads the Storm in points and assists. Another USHL veteran, J.P. Six different Riders- Justin Abdelkader, Jordan Pietrus, Gary Steffes, Matt Vokes, Greg Collins and Alec Martinez- scored. Justin Abdelkader and Alec Martinez also scored. Purcell tied the game at one 5:22 into the second period. Just 29 seconds later, a Ray Eichenlaub goal gave the Riders their first lead. Purcell struck again at 9:10 of the second. Brian Bales’ second period shorthanded goal evened the score at two.
