Game Summary: March 17, 2005- Rough Riders 6 Green Bay 1
<p>The host RoughRiders put the Green Bay Gamblers away with three quick goals early in the third period Thursday night and went on to claim a convincing 6-1 win.</p>
<p>The Riders were already leading 3-0 when Matt Vokes triggered the the third period onslaught with a goal just 2:11 into the period. Vokes raced into the right wing circle on a 2-on-1 rush and rifled the puck in under the cross bar to make the score 4-0.</p>
<p>Just 41 seconds later, Greg Collins scored the Riders’ fifth. Green Bay goaltender Daniel Rosen (31 saves) stopped Hunter Bishop’s shot from the right wing circle, but Collins was on hand to bury the rebound. </p>
<p>Alec Martinez capped off the Cedar Rapids goal rush at 4:29 of the third. Martinez beat Rosen over the left shoulder with a wrist shot from the high slot.</p>
<p>Rider goaltender Dan Tormey (21 saves) kept the Gamblers off the scoreboard until Joe Welch buried a rebound at 12:49 of the third to end Tormey’s shutout bid.</p>
<p>The Riders first took the lead on Justin Abdelkader’s power play goal at 4:18 of the first period. Abdelkader converted the rebound after Rosen stopped the Rider centerman’s initial bid from the slot.</p>
<p>The Riders stretched the lead to three with a pair of second period goals. At 11:26, the Riders made it 2-0 when Jordan Pietrus gunned the puck home from the right wing circle after his initial bid was blocked. </p>
<p>Gary Steffes scored the third Cedar Rapids goal with just 1:04 left in the second. Steffes steered a Justin Abdelkader feed home from the doorstep for the first goal of Steffes’s USHL career.</p>
