The Riders were shutout 4-0 last Friday by the Sioux Falls Stampede and fell 7-3 to the Sioux City Musketeers last Saturday.<o:p></o:p></H1> The Riders and Omaha Lancers are in a dead heat for the top spot in the league. Both teams have seven games remaining. Should they finish in a tie, the Lancers would win the tie breaker because they won the season series between the two clubs.<o:p></o:p> The Riders dropped back-to-back games after winning their prior six in a row, matching their longest winning streak of the season. The Riders capped off the winning streak with a 4-2 win over the Chicago Steel last Wednesday in <st1:place w:st="on">Bensenville</st1:place>, Illinos.<o:p></o:p> With that win over the Steel, the Riders set a new USHL record for most road wins (21) in a season.<o:p></o:p> The Riders play their final two regular season home games this week. The Riders are 2-5-2 in their last nine games on home ice.<o:p></o:p> The Riders will kick off a regular season-ending run of five straight road games when they visit <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Waterloo</st1:City></st1:place> this Saturday. The Riders have won four straight on the road and have gone 17-1 in their last 18 road games.<o:p></o:p> At 21-3-1 away from home, the Riders are far and away the best road team in the USHL. The Riders have a better winning percentage on the road (.860) than at home, where they have gone 16-8-4 (.643).<o:p></o:p> The Riders remain the USHL’s best offensive team and rank third in the league defensively. The Riders score an average of 3.8 goals per game and give up 2.7 goals per contest. <o:p></o:p> The seven goals the Riders surrendered last Saturday were a season high. The Riders have given up 11 goals in their last two games after giving up just eight in their prior six outings.<o:p></o:p> The Riders remain atop the league on the power play (22.9 percent). <o:p></o:p> Shane Lovdahl (7-28-35) broke the team single season record for most assists and points by a defenseman with the first of his two assists in last Wednesday’s win. Lovdahl snapped records set by Derek Peltier, who had 26 assists and 33 points last season.<o:p></o:p> Riders captain Rob Ricci is in the midst of an eight game point scoring streak. Ricci has scored seven goals and totaled ten points during that run. Ricci is two games short of the team record for longest point scoring streak.<o:p></o:p> <st1:City w:st="on">Green Bay</st1:City> is two points behind <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:State w:st="on">Indiana</st1:State></st1:place> in the race for the fourth and final East Division playoff spot. The Gamblers have a game in hand on the Ice.<o:p></o:p> The Gamblers have lost four of their last five games. The Gamblers lost back-to-back games last weekend, falling to <st1:City w:st="on">Chicago</st1:City> 6-2 last Saturday and being shutout 3-0 Sunday by <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Waterloo</st1:place></st1:City>.<o:p></o:p> <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Green Bay</st1:City></st1:place> has gone 7-8 over its last 15 games after posting a 12-24-1 record over its first 35 outings.<o:p></o:p> The Gamblers rank last in the league on both the power play (10 percent) and on the penalty kill (76.3 percent).<o:p></o:p> The Steel ended a three game losing streak and a five game winless streak (0-3-2) with last Saturday’s win at <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Green Bay</st1:City></st1:place>. That victory came one night after <st1:City w:st="on">Chicago</st1:City> blew a 4-1 lead at <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Des Moines</st1:place></st1:City> and lost to the Buccaneers 5-4.<o:p></o:p> <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Chicago</st1:City></st1:place> is tied for second place in the East Division with the Waterloo Black Hawks. However, <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Waterloo</st1:City></st1:place> has five games in hand on the Steel. The second place finisher in the division will have home ice advantage in its first round playoff meeting with the third place team.<o:p></o:p> Even after scoring ten goals over two games last weekend, <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Chicago</st1:City></st1:place> still ranks just eighth in the league in goals per game (2.8). An often punchless power play is one factor in the Steel’s offensive struggles. <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Chicago</st1:City></st1:place> ranks ninth in the league on the power play, cashing in on just 12.7 percent of its man advantages.<o:p></o:p> The Black Hawks have won back-to-back games and five of their last six to catch up with <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Chicago</st1:City></st1:place>. The Hawks rebounded from a 7-1 loss last Tuesday at Tri-City with a 3-1 win over <st1:City w:st="on">Sioux Falls</st1:City> last Thursday and a 3-0 shutout victory in <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Green Bay</st1:place></st1:City> Sunday.<o:p></o:p> The Black Hawks have gone 12-6 in their last 18 games after starting the season 13-16-5 in their first 34 games.<o:p></o:p> The Hawks will travel to <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Sioux City</st1:City></st1:place> to meet the Musketeers Friday night.<o:p></o:p> Former Rider Sean Muncy has added some welcome offensive punch to the Black Hawk line-up since being acquired in a trade with <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Des Moines</st1:City></st1:place> last month. Muncy already has six goals and 14 points in just 13 games with the Hawks.<o:p></o:p> After spending most of the season at the bottom of the league in goal scoring, the Hawks now rank second to last in goals per game (2.5).
