Game Summary: March 9, 2005- RoughRiders 4 Chicago 2
<P>Kyle Solomon scored two goals and Alex Stalock made 34 saves as the RoughRiders defeated the host Chicago Steel 4-2 Wednesday night.</P><br><P>The win was the Riders' twenty-first on the road this season, a new United States Hockey League record.</P><br><P>The Riders cranked up the attack early, jumping out to a 3-0 first period lead.</P><br><P>The Riders scored the first goal of the night just 2:34 into the game while on the power play. Justin Abdelkader tipped in a Shane Lovdahl drive from the left point to put Cedar Rapids on top. With that assist, Lovdahl set new team records for most assists and points by a defensemen in a season.</P><br><P>Solomon's first goal of the evening extended the Rider lead to 2-0 at 10:52 of the first. Lovdahl's drive from top of the right wing circle was stopped by Steel goaltender Shane Connelly, but Solomon swept in the rebound. </P><br><P>Lovdahl lifted his record-setting totals to 28 assists and 35 points with that assist. </P><br><P>After giving up that goal, Connelly was replaced by Billy Sauer in the Steel net.</P><br><P>The Riders were again on the power play when Jon Grabarek buried a Brandon Svendsen centering pass to make the score 3-0 at 15:41.</P><br><P>The Steel got on the scoreboard one minute and twenty-two seconds later when Chris Clackson scored on the rebound after Alex Stalock stopped Joe Loprieno's bid from the right wing circle.</P><br><P>The Riders protected the 3-1 lead through the second period and deep into the third until Solomon struck for his second goal with just 1:22 left in the game. Rob Ricci's shot from the high slot was stopped by Sauer, but Solomon jammed the rebound over the goal line.</P><br><P>A mere 28 seconds later, Clackson fired the puck over Stalock's shoulder from the top of the right circle to cut the Rider lead to 4-2, but by then the issue was no longer really in doubt.</P><br><P><A href="http://www.pointstreak.com/prostats/boxscore.html?gameid=134793" target=_blank>Box Score</A></P> |
