RoughRiders First Round Playoff Tickets on Sale Monday

March 4, 2005- Cedar Rapids RoughRiders first round Clark Cup playoff tickets will go on sale to the general public next Monday at noon at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena ticket office, the RoughRiders announced today.

Playoff tickets will be available for purchase at the ice arena or over the phone at 261-4625. Playoff ticket prices range from $9 to $18. Tickets for only the first round of the playoffs will be made available Monday. Tickets for the second and third rounds- should the Riders advance- will go on sale at a later date.

The first round of the playoffs will start no earlier than Tuesday, April 5 and will end no later than Saturday, April 16. All playoff series are best-of-five. The RoughRiders have already clinched home ice advantage in the first and- should they advance- second rounds of the playoffs.

Because the first round playoff schedule will only be finalized at or just before the end of the regular season, playoff tickets will be designated as good for “game A”, “game B”, etc. Exact dates, times and opponents for playoff games will be announced as soon as they are finalized.

First round playoff tickets are already included in season ticket holders’ packages.

The Riders (35-9-5, 75 points) clinched a playoff spot earlier this season- after just 41 games- than in any other season in team history. The Riders became the first team in the United States Hockey League to lock up a post season berth this season when they defeated the Chicago Steel 5-4 in overtime on February 11. The Riders have now qualified for the playoffs five years in a row.

The Riders clinched the USHL’s East Divison title with a 3-1 win over the Green Bay Gamblers last Saturday and set new club records for most wins and points in a season with their most recent victory, Wednesday’s 3-1 defeat of the Sioux Falls Stampede.

The Riders are one point ahead of the Omaha Lancers in the race for first place overall in the USHL. The Riders and Lancers will meet head-to-head this Friday night in Council Bluffs.

The Clark Cup is symbolic of supremacy in American junior hockey and is presented annually to the playoff champions of the USHL, the nation’s only Tier I junior league.
| Posted on Friday, March 04, 2005 (Archive on Friday, March 04, 2005)
