The Riders defeated the Des Moines Buccaneers 5-2 last Thursday and dropped the Indiana Ice 5-1 last Friday. Both of those wins came on home ice.<o:p></o:p></H1> The Riders’ three game winning streak comes after the Riders had lost their prior two games and gone winless (0-3-1) in their previous four.<o:p></o:p> The Riders have just completed a run of eight games in 16 nights. They went <st1:date w:st="on" Year="2001" Day="3" Month="4">4-3-1</st1:date> during that stretch.<o:p></o:p> Last Saturday’s game was the first of four straight on the road for the Riders.<o:p></o:p> With their win in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Green Bay</st1:City></st1:place>, the Riders improved their league-best road record to <st1:date w:st="on" Year="2001" Day="18" Month="3">18-3-1</st1:date>. The Riders are just two away victories shy of matching the league record for road wins in one season (20). The Riders are <st1:date w:st="on" Year="2000" Day="1" Month="13">13-1-0</st1:date> in their last 14 road games.<o:p></o:p> The Riders won at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena last Thursday and Friday after dropping their prior two home games and going winless (0-3-2) in their previous five.<o:p></o:p> The Riders have a better winning percentage on the road (.841) than at home, where they have gone <st1:date w:st="on" Year="2004" Day="16" Month="6">16-6-4</st1:date> (.692)<o:p></o:p> Heading into Wednesday’s game against <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Sioux Falls</st1:City></st1:place>, the Riders have suffered just one regulation loss (<st1:date w:st="on" Year="2004" Day="1" Month="6">6-1-4</st1:date>) in their last eleven games against West Division opponents.<o:p></o:p> The Riders remain the USHL’s best offensive team and have climbed back to second in the league defensively. The Riders score an average of 3.9 goals per game and give up 2.7 goals per contest. <o:p></o:p> The Riders remain atop the league on the power play (23.8 percent). The Riders also appear to have righted their penalty kill. The Riders went 12-for-12 on the kill in their last two games (including a 10-for-10 effort last Friday against <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:State w:st="on">Indiana</st1:State></st1:place>) after having given up eight power play goals in their previous four games. The Riders now rank seventh on the penalty kill (84.7 percent).<o:p></o:p> The Sioux Falls Stampede bounced back from back-to-back defeats earlier in the week to beat the Chicago Steel 3-2 in a shootout Saturday night and keep their flagging playoff hopes afloat.<o:p></o:p> The Stampede, who lost to <st1:City w:st="on">Sioux City</st1:City> 5-1 last Tuesday and <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Green Bay</st1:City></st1:place> 2-1 last Friday, are nine points behind the fourth place Tri-City Storm in the race for the final West Division playoff spot. <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Sioux Falls</st1:City></st1:place> does have two games in hand on Tri-City.<o:p></o:p> Hampered by injuries much of the season, the Stampede has not been able to regain the form that saw it go <st1:date w:st="on" Year="2001" Day="3" Month="9">9-3-1</st1:date> over the first 13 games of the campaign. <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Sioux Falls</st1:City></st1:place> has gone just <st1:date w:st="on" Year="2003" Day="16" Month="12">12-16-3</st1:date> since then.<o:p></o:p> <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Sioux Falls</st1:City></st1:place>’ Andrew Carroll (26-20-46) leads the league in goal scoring, just ahead of teammate Justin Milo (<st1:date w:st="on" Year="1936" Day="24" Month="12">24-12-36</st1:date>), who ranks third. Between them, Carroll and <st1:place w:st="on">Milo</st1:place> have provided more than one third (35.2 percent) of the Stampede’s 142 total goals this season.<o:p></o:p> The Lancers’ overtime loss last Saturday in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Lincoln</st1:City></st1:place> enabled the Stars to pull within four points of the Lancers in the race for first place in the West Division. The Lancers, who did earn one point for the sudden death defeat, have played one more game than the Stars. The rivals meet again tonight in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Council Bluffs</st1:City></st1:place>. The Lancers will host the Indiana Ice Friday night.<o:p></o:p> The Lancers surrendered five goals against the Stars just four days after shutting out Tri-City 3-0.<o:p></o:p> <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Omaha</st1:City></st1:place> picked up at least one point in 12 of its last 13 games (<st1:date w:st="on" Year="2004" Day="1" Month="8">8-1-4</st1:date>) and has suffered just two regulation defeats in its last 19 games (<st1:date w:st="on" Year="2004" Day="13" Month="2">13-2-4</st1:date>).<o:p></o:p> The Lancers give up the fewest goals per game in the league (2.5) and rank behind only the Riders in goals scored per game (3.8).
