The Riders have now also lost back-to-back games in regulation for just the second time this season. <o:p></o:p></H1> <H1 style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; TEXT-INDENT: 0.5in">After going 0-2-1 last week, the Riders have fallen two points behind the Omaha Lancers in the race for first place overall in the USHL. The Riders do have one game in hand on the Lancers.<o:p></o:p></H1> The Riders fell to the Lancers 5-4 in a shootout last Tuesday in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Cedar Rapids</st1:City></st1:place>. A 5-3 defeat at the hands of the Des Moines Buccaneers followed last Friday. Last Saturday the Riders were defeated 6-4 by the Lincoln Stars.<o:p></o:p> The Riders are 18 points ahead of the second place Chicago Steel in the East Division. The Riders’ magic number for clinching home ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs is just four. That is, any combination of points gained by the Riders or lost by the team with the third best winning percentage in the East Division- Chicago- totaling four will lockup home ice for the Riders in the opening round of the post season.<o:p></o:p> The Riders’ magic number for clinching the first division title in club history in ten. Any combination of points gained by the Riders or lost by the team with the second best winning percentage in the East Division- Waterloo- totaling ten will result in the Riders securing the division crown.<o:p></o:p> The Riders this week face three games in three days for the third time this season. The Riders will also this week complete a stretch of eight games in 16 days.<o:p></o:p> Should the Riders win each of their three games this week, they would tie the team records for most wins (34) and most points (73) in one season.<o:p></o:p> To reach those milestones, the Riders will have to rebound from their recent struggles. The Riders have just one win in their last six games (<st1:date w:st="on" Year="2001" Day="4" Month="1">1-4-1</st1:date>). The Riders gone just <st1:date w:st="on" Year="2002" Day="5" Month="3">3-5-2</st1:date> in their last ten games after going <st1:date w:st="on" Year="2002" Day="21" Month="1">21-1-2</st1:date> in their prior 24 games.<o:p></o:p> The Riders have lost back-to-back home games, are winless in their last five home games (0-3-2) and have just one win in their last seven home games (<st1:date w:st="on" Year="2002" Day="4" Month="1">1-4-2</st1:date>).<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> At <st1:date w:st="on" Year="2001" Day="17" Month="3">17-3-1</st1:date> on the season, the Riders have the league’s best road record. The Riders have a better winning percentage on the road (.833) than at home, where they have gone <st1:date w:st="on" Year="2004" Day="14" Month="6">14-6-4</st1:date> (.667)<o:p></o:p> The Riders have lost their last two games against East Division foes and three of their last four against eastern opposition. The Riders have gone 3-4 in their last seven games against the east after starting the season 22-2 against division opponents.<o:p></o:p> Saturday night’s loss to <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Lincoln</st1:City></st1:place> ended a streak that had seen the Riders pick up at least one point in ten <o:p></o:p> straight games (6-0-4) against West Division opponents.<o:p></o:p> The Riders remain the USHL’s best offensive team but have dropped to third in the league defensively. The Riders score an average of 3.8 goals per game and give up 2.8 goals per contest. <o:p></o:p> The Riders remain atop the league on the power play (22.6 percent). However, after giving up seven power play goals in their three games last week, the Riders have fallen from first to seventh on the penalty kill (83.8 percent).<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> The Des Moines Buccaneers went 2-2 while playing four games in six days through Sunday. The Bucs fell 6-4 last Tuesday at <st1:City w:st="on">Waterloo</st1:City>, defeated the Riders 5-3 last Friday, downed the Black Hawks 5-2 last Saturday on home ice before being dropped 5-1 last Saturday at <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Waterloo</st1:City></st1:place>.<o:p></o:p> The busy Bucs remain in last place overall, ten points behind the Green Bay Gamblers, the team closest to them in the standings.<o:p></o:p> The Bucs have gone 4-3 over their last seven games after going <st1:date w:st="on" Year="2005" Day="28" Month="6">6-28-5</st1:date> over their first 39.<o:p></o:p> The Buccaneers surrender 4.2 goals per game, far and away the most in the league. <o:p></o:p> Chad Rau (21-30-50) is the Bucs’ top scorer.<o:p></o:p> The Indiana Ice played just once last weekend, suffering a 2-1 defeat Friday in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Green Bay</st1:City></st1:place>.
