RoughRiders’ Jersey Auction Raises $5,800; Proceeds to Benefit Children’s Miracle Network

February 21, 2005- The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders raised $5,800 in a special live jersey auction benefiting the Children’s Miracle Network last Saturday night at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.

The special edition silver jerseys worn by the Riders in their hard-fought 6-4 loss to the Lincoln Stars Saturday evening went up for bid immediately following the game. The jerseys are sponsored by Krispy Kreme.

“We are very thankful to our fans for once again stepping up with a fine display of generosity for such a worthy cause,” said RoughRiders Vice President of Operations Jim Calpin. “We would also like to extend our thanks to Krispy Kreme for their sponsorship of these jerseys.”

The jerseys of Rider forwards Justin Abdelkader and Rob Ricci drew the highest bids- $425- last Saturday.

The Riders have now raised well over $12,000 for charity through jersey auctions this season. Last month the Riders’ teamed up with the Cedar Rapids Police and Fire Departments to bring in better than $6,500 by auctioning off special “Guns & Hoses” Rider jerseys. Proceeds from that auction benefited the Red Cross, the Salvation Army and Survivors of Homicide.

This marks the third time in recent years that the Riders have held a jersey auction to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network. Those three auctions have drawn nearly $29,000 in bids.

The East Division-leading RoughRiders (31-9-5, 67 points) return to action with three games this week. The Riders will host the Des Moines Buccaneers Thursday night and the Indiana Ice Friday evening before traveling to Green Bay to meet the Gamblers Saturday night. All three games face off at 7:05PM.

Tickets for the Riders’ games Thursday and Friday- and all remaining Rider home dates- are now on sale at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena ticket office. Tickets can be purchased over the phone at (319) 261-4625 or in person at the ice arena. The ticket office is open from noon to 5:00PM on weekdays and from noon through the end of the second period on game days. Ticket prices range from $8.00 to $17.00 including a 50-cent facility fee.

This Friday is a Family Pack night. The Family Pack enables fans to purchase four green zone seats, four hot dogs, four fountain drinks and a game program all for just $44. The Family Pack is available for all of the RoughRiders’ Friday and Sunday home games.
