RoughRiders’ Svendsen Commits to Bowling Green
<p>February 15, 2005- Cedar Rapids RoughRiders forward Brandon Svendsen has committed to Bowling Green, the RoughRiders announced to day.</p><br><p>Svendsen will begin his college career in the fall.</p><br><p>“This is absolutely great news for Brandon,” said RoughRiders coach and general manager Mark Carlson. “He has been one of our hardest working and most tenacious players all season.”</p><br><p>Svendsen, 19, has scored 15 goals and totaled 30 points in 42 games with the RoughRiders this season. The Maplewood, Minnesota, native leads the Riders with two shorthanded goals and has posted a plus/minus rating of +14. </p><br><p>Svendsen has played some of his best hockey of the season in recent days. He has scored three goals in his last four games and has rung up four goals and seven points in just his last six games.</p><br><p>Svendsen joined the RoughRiders this season after skating for the Fargo-Moorhead Jets of the junior A North American Hockey Leauge last year. Prior to making the jump to the junior ranks, Svendsen led Roseville High School to the 2003 Minnesota state final.</p><br><p>Bowling Green has gone 13-11-4 overall this season. Coach Scott Paluch’s Falcons are tied for fifth place in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association with a 10-9-3 conference record. </p><br><p>Svendsen will follow in the footsteps of former Rider defenseman Chris Pedota at Bowling Green. Pedota is now in his senior season at BGSU.</p><br><p>Svendsen joins Justin Abdelkader (Michigan State), Phil Axtell (Michigan Tech), Greg Collins (New Hampshire), Ray Eichenlaub (Miami of Ohio), Billy Loupee (Miami of Ohio), Shane Lovedahl (Alaska-Anchorage), Alec Martinez (Miami of Ohio), Ted Purcell (Maine), Rob Ricci (Merrimack), Alex Stalock (Minnesota-Duluth), Gary Steffes (Miami of Ohio) and Matt Vokes (Brown) as the thirteenth member of the 2004-05 RoughRiders to make a college committment.</p><br><p>Svendsen and the league-leading RoughRiders (31-7-4, 66 points) return to action tonight when they take on the Omaha Lancers at 7:05 at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena. This evening’s game kicks off a five game homestand for the Riders, the club’s longest of the season. The Riders will also be in action on home ice this Friday against the Des Moines Buccaneers and this Saturday against the Lincoln Stars. Both of those games also face off at 7:05PM.</p><br><p>The RoughRiders last Friday clinched their fifth straight berth in the Clark Cup playoffs with a 5-4 overtime win over the Chicago Steel in Bensenville, Illinois. That win also extended the Riders’ road winning streak to a league record 13-straight games. The Riders finally suffered their first away loss since November 6 when they fell 3-2 to the Waterloo Black Hawks last Saturday night.</p><br><p>Tickets for this week’s games and all remaining RoughRiders home dates are now on sale at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena ticket office. Tickets can be purchased over the phone at (319) 261-4625 or in person at the ice arena. The ticket office is open from noon to 5:00PM on weekdays and from noon through the end of the second period on game days.
