Game Summary: February 11, 2005- RoughRiders 5 Chicago 4 (ot)

Jon Gabarek’s goal 2:27 into overtime gave the RoughRiders a playoff clinching 5-4 win over the host Chicago Steel Friday night.

The win, which was also the Riders’ league-record breaking thirteenth straight on the road, enabled Cedar Rapids to lock up its fifth straight post season berth.

Grabarek, who also had one assist, fired a Justin Abdelkader feed home from the right wing circle for the deciding goal.

Overtime came on the heels of a scoreless third period.

Chicago’s David Marshall had a hat trick and one assist in a wild six-goal second period as the Steel battled back from 3-0 and 4-3 deficits to twice tie the score in the second.

Ted Purcell (two power play goals) and Justin Abdelkader (one goal, two assists) led the Rider attack.

Brandon Svendsen scored the Riders’ other goal shorthanded just under three minutes into the first period. That goal gave the Riders and early 2-0 lead, but any hopes the Riders might have had of an easy night soon vanished.
