RoughRiders, Jaycees Team Up For February Food Drive Tomorrow Night
<p>February 4, 2005- The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, in cooperation with the Cedar Rapids Jaycees, will host their February food drive tomorrow night when the RoughRiders host the Waterloo Black Hawks at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena at 7:05PM. </p>
<p>The Riders and the Jaycees are teaming up for monthly food drives throughout the season to benefit the HACAP Food Reservoir. The Jaycees collect canned food items at the RoughRiders’ first Saturday home game of each month.</p>
<p>“This is our second to last food drive night of the season and we’re looking forward to our fans again showing the kind of generosity they’ve displayed in making this such a successful program all season long,” said RoughRiders Vice President of Operations Jim Calpin. </p>
<p>The Cedar Rapids chapter of the United States Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jaycees) is a community-based leadership training organization for men and women age 21-39. Through serving the Cedar Rapids area in a variety of projects and programs, young people have the opportunity to develop their leadership and business skills. The Jaycees are the organization of choice for young men and women who want the best opportunities for leadership development, volunteerism and community service.</p>
<p>HACAP- Hawkeye Area Community Action Program, Inc.- is celebrating its thirty-eighth year of providing services to eliminate the causes of poverty in Benton, Iowa, Johnson, Jones, Linn and Washington counties. The mission of HACAP is to promote economic and emotional strength toward a goal of self-sufficiency for disadvantaged people in our communities.</p>
<p>The HACAP Food Reservoir is a member of America’s Second Harvest Food Bank Network. The Food Reservoir channels donated products to area soup kitchens, pantries, homeless shelters, day care centers and other nonprofit food programs that feed the needy.</p>
<p>The league-leading RoughRiders (30-5-4, 64 points) return to action on home ice against the arch rival Black Hawks tomorrow night after a history-making 8-4 win over the Buccaneers last night in Des Moines. With that win, their twelfth in a row on the road, the Riders set a new United States Hockey League record for longest single season road winning streak.</p>
<p>Tickets for RoughRider home games- including tomorrow night’s- are now on sale at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena ticket office. Tickets can be purchased over the phone at (319) 261-4625 or in person at the ice arena. The ticket office is open from noon to 5:00PM on weekdays and from noon through the end of the second period on game days.
