RoughRiders' "Guns & Hoses" Jersey Auction Raises Over $6,500
<p>January 31, 2005- The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders raised more than $6,500 in a special live jersey auction benefiting the Red Cross, the Salvation Army and Survivors of Homicide last Friday night at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena. The special edition "Guns & Hoses" jerseys worn by the Riders in their 5-4 win over the Indiana Ice Friday evening went up for bid immediately following the game.</p>
<p>The Red Cross, the Salvation Army and Survivors of Homicide are the charities of choice of the Cedar Rapids Fire and Police Departments, which were honored along with other area fire fighters and law enforcement personnel as part of the RoughRiders' "Guns & Hoses Night" Saturday.</p>
<p>"We are very grateful to our fans for their outstanding display of generosity," said RoughRiders Vice President of Operations Jim Calpin. "We are also delighted to have the opportunity to team up with the Cedar Rapids Police and Fire Departments to benefit three very worthy causes."</p>
<p>Rider defenseman Shane Lovdahl's jersey drew the highest bid- $500. A total of 22 jerseys were auctioned off.</p>
<p>The league-leading RoughRiders (29-5-4, 62 points) return to action with a pair of games this week. The Riders visit the Des Moines Buccaneers Thursday night and will return home to meet the archrival Waterloo Black Hawks Saturday evening at 7:05.</p>
<p>The Riders, who lead the Omaha Lancers by three points in the race for first place overall in the United States Hockey League, have gone 13-2-1 in their last 16 games and 22-2-3 in their last 27 outings. </p>
<p>Tickets for Saturday's game and all remaining RoughRiders home dates are now on sale at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena ticket office. Tickets can be purchased over the phone at (319) 261-4625 or in person at the ice arena. The ticket office is open from noon to 5:00PM on weekdays and from noon through the end of the second period on game days. Ticket prices range from $8.00 to $17.00 including a 50-cent facility fee. </p> |
